The Peacoat, in Hunter Green
The Peacoat, in Hunter Green
I had a peacoat I wore for more than ten years. It was vintage when I got it. I wore it every winter until I knew everything about it, the good and the parts that always bothered me.
That is how this coat started. I wanted the one I had, without the things I would have fixed.
It took years. It was only possible with our craftsmen in Japan.
The buttons
Peacoats come from the navy, which is why the buttons have anchors on them.
I kept the anchors. They are made in Japan and they run all the way down the front.
Nobody would have said anything if I had used a plain button. It just would not have been a peacoat to me.
The color
Almost every peacoat ever made is navy, and there is a reason for that.
I wanted green. I worked it out with the mill until it was the green I had in my head, and they got there.
It is 14.7oz, custom Hunter Green, made for us in the Aichi-Ichinomiya area of Japan, which is known for its wool.
Inside
Black Cupra through the whole lining, made for us in Japan. Two concealed pockets. The Black Bear Brand COMMANDER tag in the neck.
The whole coat is made in Japan.
It releases September 22. This is the first look at it.
Tokyo
It is coming with me to the pop up. October 2, 3 and 4, noon until six, at 2-21-12 Ebisu Minami, Shibuya-Ku.
If you are anywhere near, come by. A wool coat is a thing you have to handle.
Your turn
What have you owned for ten years and still wear? Write and tell me. I read all of them.
Have a nice day. I mean that.
Josh
