A story of no limitations and monster inspiration.  Woodward Pennsylvania

"One morning Wheelz and I were talking about a stunt that he wanted to do at WOODWARD that's beyond the general grinding coping at the top of the ramps like skateboarders or bike riders do.  Aaron has been grinding many different things on his chair but wanted to take it to the next level and by making/fixing a part of his chair underneath his feet it would be possible with out getting hung up on anything.” - Nathan Wessel

AG Progress Fair in State College with Max Williams and Marc Lopez from Miller Electric.

"Marc and Max have been my Miller reps for a few years and have helped me through some of my biggest jobs. Miller is the only machine I will spend money on... it is all I own; their customer service is top notch. Marc and Max said they were coming to town for AG Progress days. (a local farming and agriculture show) but never thought we'd be sitting in their both welding Aaron (WHEELZ) wheel chair.   It was super random that Wheelz was in town at the same time as the Miller guys; there's no better place to make a fix like this... with all the newest best welding machines surrounding us.  Thanks again Max and Marc for letting us crash the party and take over the demo machines." - Nathan Wessel

WOODWARD (Mini mega ramp where Wheelz made history grinding the first hand rail on the biggest gap)

"Wheelz trying to talk himself out of dropping in, while sitting in the calm before the storm... then he tells himself SEND IT" - Nathan Wessel

"This guy right here has inspired millions of people; I am one of those people and so fortunate to call Aaron a true friend... love you buddy!" - Nathan Wessel

"While sitting on top of that rollin with Wheelz and talking about the grind he was dropping in to do; he said he’s the most terrified he has ever been... then right before he dropped "we are getting tattoos if I pull this off."  I had a surprise for Aaron 2 days later; Cody Hennings flew from Texas and Aaron was getting his first tattoo… and a tattoo that Aaron and I will have a connection to for the rest of our lives; a reflection of how badass the last two weeks of our lives have been." - Nathan Wessel

"To have a room full of people that I have tattooed for the better part of a decade was an indescribable feeling.  I was able to watch the story of my life visually unfold in the form of tattoo,  representing the unique journey of some amazing individuals."

Tattoo Culture The Creative Expression

Skin Deep with Black Bear Brand - Part One

Justin Ormiston of Electric Uprising - Union Of Makers

To me tattooing marks a never ending cycle of vulnerability and progression. The permanence alone is enough to break me, let alone the act of permanently marking another individual. It's a fine balance between creating what I feel I do well and challenging myself to chase my creative dreams. All the while, desperately wanting to ensure that the final product leaves my client with a big smile on their face. The people that I get to work with are what truly make my career so special. The stories, jokes and friendships, the struggles, lessons and break throughs. Tattooing is definitely a very intimate team sport that has made me a more complete person. Few things in my lifetime have humbled me the way that tattooing does. To me the art of tattoo parallels my perception of existence. If we are fortunate, we have this moment, we do our very best, we live with it forever more. I can look back and remember, I can look forward and dream of creations to come, I cherish every second.

Union of Makers

Union Of Makers was conceived in love and tribute to the counter culture of today’s makers and craftsman. It also conveys what we are about: collaborating, uniting and pushing what’s possible together.

Union of Makers - Epic Bike Trip - June 14-28th

A union of makers that began in the tattoo studio set the ground work for a friendship that resulted in the bike trip of a lifetime. From float planes to seven summits with grizzly encounters... the universe aligned to offer a seamlessly unplanned trip that was perfect in every way. Sometimes one can't help but feel that they are EXACTLY where they need to be. That was the story of the two week bike adventure that will never be forgotten.

Introducing Black Bear Brand

May 7, 2015
SEATTLE, WASH.

Black Manufacturing, LLC launches its revival of Seattle’s Black Bear Brand.

Newly formed Black Manufacturing, LLC, will be breathing new life into the iconic Seattle-area Black Bear Brand. Drawing our inspiration from the union-made culture and aesthetic of the original goods, the revived Black Bear Brand will be highlighted by our collaborations with like-minded companies, individuals and other heritage American brands.

We carry on the history of Black Bear Brand by providing reinterpretations of classic work wear that remain true to the quality, grit and rawness that made the original brand a staple of the Pacific Northwest for over 100 years. Our story is part of the larger American story—the story of continuous reinvention and innovation, of the freedom to chart your own path and the possibilities that exist where the fiercely independent can participate as a union.

We are committed to preserving the brand’s rich history, keeping the products simple, and keeping the story alive.
